About Lacello Guitars

For decades, I searched for what guitar players often call the “holy grail”: the instrument that gets everything right. I wasn’t simply collecting guitars. I was comparing, measuring and listening—trying to understand why one instrument felt alive while another, even with impressive specifications, did not.

Over the years, I owned more than 500 guitars and studied virtually every specification I could find. Neck profiles, scale lengths, fretwork, bridge design, pickup placement, tonewoods, weight distribution and construction methods all became part of the search. The deeper I went, the clearer it became that the perfect guitar was not defined by one feature. It was the result of hundreds of small decisions working together.

I did far more than study those instruments. I performed fretwork and made countless modifications to improve how they felt, played and performed. That hands-on experimentation taught me how seemingly small changes can transform a guitar.

From Player to Builder

Eventually, I realized that the guitar I was searching for might have to be built.

I invested in learning directly from master luthier François Beauséjour. He taught me the theory behind lutherie and shared many of the building methods he had developed throughout his career. That knowledge gave me a strong foundation, but it was while building my first Lacello that everything truly clicked.

I discovered a natural instinct for the craft and a level of precision I did not know I possessed. The completed instrument did not simply feel good for a first build—it held its own against, and in certain ways surpassed, some of the finest American-made guitars I had owned.

Passion Before Business

Lacello did not begin as a plan to make money. It began with curiosity, passion and an obsession with creating a better instrument. There were no production targets and no reason to compromise. I continued building because every guitar presented another opportunity to learn and improve.

After building roughly 300 guitars, I have refined the craft through repetition, experimentation and countless hours of hands-on work. But I have never considered the work finished. Every instrument still teaches me something, and every detail is continually questioned, tested and improved.
